i was wondering what the first thing any of you did with your ppl.......... i think im gonna take my mom step dad and little sister up when i get mine :-D i just cant wait until that day comes lol i know im far off but i just cant wait ! got complex/hp endorsment in different plane.
Yah, first thing I did was get checked out in a new plane.
Used it to do a few XCs and a few flights with wife, friends, family.
I'm at 80 hours now and working on instrument rating.
Plan to get HP/complex here soon.
My first logbook entry after my private shows a 0.7 hour flight in which I took my wife up and flew over Quabbin Reservoir (you New Englanders will know how pretty that is). She fell asleep on the way back (a =very= good sign), waking up shortly before touchdown.
The next flight was a 3.3 hour xc (7B2-RUT-LEB-7B2), again with Janet, on Christmas Day. We =froze!!!=
Started instrument training and started working on my complex endorsment.

I got checked out in the mighty 150, then took a C/X to key west (3.7h) by myself.
I'm going to get better at night flying and then I'll take friends and familly and go places while building time.
IFR rating is next
Took my Dad up for a local flight. Flew up to the Verazano bridge and watched a cruise ship depart.
That was it...a week later I headed down to Florida and I've been working on my instrument and doing cross contries. I've got 80 hours now.
First thing I did after getting my private certificate was ...
fly back home (LCI - MVL) ... just right after takeoff from Laconia my airspeed indicator fails ... :(
It worked on the takeoff roll up to 60kts and stayed stuck at 60kts. I didn't notice it until I glanced down during the climb out and I saw 60... Oh no I need to get the nose down so that I don't stall out on climbout... so I push the nose over, the engine noise and airflow get louder and the altimeter stops climbing and starts showing a descent... Airspeed stuck at 60. The ground started getting closer and then I decide that my airspeed indicator isn't working and that getting away from the ground was probably a good thing...
I thought at first the examiner did something to my airplane because he went over that specific question during the oral.. "So you're flying along and your airspeed indicator fails... Can you still keep flying?"
"Well it's a required instrument for VFR flight, so no you can't fly, but you can fly to the next point where you can get it fixed..." That was the answer I gave the examiner and he accepted it.
So after the ground was a safe distance away and I was straight and level, I tried to figure out what was wrong... and decided that the pitot tube was probably partially blocked... airspeed stayed the same whether I climbed and descended so the drain hole wasn't blocked.
So where to get it fixed? I didn't know where to go or even how to go about getting it fixed in Laconia and if I'd landed in Laconia, I was definitely grounded.... The weather was VFR and still forecast to stay VFR the whole time, so I decided to continue to where I knew it could be fixed which was back at home field 75 miles away.
Timing the checkpoints I was able to keep tab on the groundspeed. I got back safely and landed pretty well considering I didn't know if I was on speed during the pattern. The airspeed indicator worked as I slowed down below 60 during the landing roll...
The whole crew was out waiting for my return, and so I taxiied up and shutdown, got out, and after all the congratulatory hugs and all were done, I brought up the whole airspeed indicator thing.. They took it in and discovered that a bug had gotten stuck in the pitot tube and cleared it out.
I was trained in a Warrior. So the very first thing I did after PPL was to get checked out in the Archer. I also got checked out in an Archer while on vacation in Henderson, NV. After we got back, I took my hubby up in the Archer for a small SP fly-in at OSH.
My first flight after the checkride was actually with my CFI. :rolleyes: I flew him from Wichita Falls back down to Graham to pick up the Chevy Tahoe I had just sold him.
Geez. You must be one of them celebrity pilots. I think most of us would be lucky to afford dinner after the checkride, much less a toxic cocktail of highly addicitive controlled substances.Quote:

I took a trip to Beaufort, NC from RDU (RDU->MRH). Took two passengers. 125 NM each way. Was a blast. Learned something since I had to go through multiple military airspaces, and had to make a higher wind landing at MRH (down the runway, but 20 knots down the runway- slowest approach to final to date!)

I did a 152 checkout with a CFI at another airport and got grounded in their aircraft...
