Thread: Kneeboard Recomdations

Don't forget to check your local office supply store. My small clipboard works great with a little velcro. The large one works fine for cross countries. Both of them in my lap is not a problem. I did spring for an 'aviation' pen holder to attach to the small one so the pens don't go running off in turbulence.

Aerobatics is like a controlled four wheel drift around a corner, except in three dimensions instead of two.

This is where I got my super-pilot "kneeboard". I just lay a clipboard across my lap as a desk. I was always losing my pen, until I started velcro'ing it to my clipboard. Works well, for me, with a yoke, but if the plane has a center stick, you have to do something else.

This is very popular among DA40 and 42 pilots in Europe, I m sure you can get it shipped to the US:

I've started flying a Star regularly and ran into the same issue. What I ended up doing was taking the standard $15 ASA that DCat (and Keith) mentioned and drilled two extra holes along the right side so I can add rings and 5.5X8 sheet protectors for some of the extras like charts and checklists.

    We'll see...

I like the concept of the "Ultimate Kneeboard" that jlmartin pointed to, but the rings are on the wrong side for someone who would be putting the board on his right leg with a center stick.

Ah! There it is –- and I've been using one of their board for more than 10 years now!

    Aviation Regulation Fallacies and Half-Truths
    1. The AIM is not regulatory.
    2. A Safety Pilot is only a lookout.
    3. The Pilot In Command is the only person with responsibility for the safety of a flight.
    4. It's your logbook.

I have to recommend the FlyBoys Kneeeboard. Mines came in today, I'm very satisfied and the quality it top notched. I can tell its going to be a real winner. I also bought the checklist pages and rings to go with the kneeboard. The pair is a killer combo. I'm a lefty and it seems I will not have any issues writing or using it on my left leg as well.

    Thanks for the recommendations guys!

The "left-handed" LC FlightBoard came in. Configuration-wise, it's similar to the board swisspilot indicated was popular with the DA crowd in Europe. Small board for the right knee and rings with page holders and pockets for charts, and pencils on the right.

    Kneeboard Recommendation

Just get a $3 clip board from your local store. Spend money on flying not accessories!

Knee board: Elastic wears out, clear plastic cracks, pencil holder broke.

For some a simple clipboard falling off their knee is enough (remember - this thread is talking about solutions for an airplane with a center stick).

The one I currently use for yoke-equipped airplanes has a number of pockets for storing charts and other small accessories (I flew an airplane without easyilt-accessible storage for those types of things) and has lasted 10+ years with no sign of any wear whatsoever.

    Different strokes.
